    • Quetzalcobra

A rare snake that inhabits the Flooded Forest.
It can fan out its neck, appearing like the wings of a bird, in a display used to threaten predators or attract mates. It secretes a fluid from its mouth that has healing properties. It used to be worshipped by humans, but this practice has disappeared over time, and now it just lives its enigmatic life free of all the fuss.

    • Golden Lampsquid

A squid that inhabits the Frost Islands.
Unlike other Lampsquid, it swims alone. It owes its aureate glow to its ink, which is known to promote concentration, fortitude, and the healing of any and all wounds. It is so rare that it has earned the name “King of the Lampsquid.”

    • Regitrice

A rare wingdrake of the Sandy Plains. It usually nests in caves, but will occasionally emerge to bask in the sun, improving its metabolism.
On its head is a comb that looks like a winged crown or cape, which, combined with its glittering scales and languid form, gives it something of a regal air.

    • Prism Spiribird

A small bird that glows a spectrum of colors.
This glow comes from pollen that accumulates on its body while drinking nectar. Many mistake this glow for a human soul, hence the name.
Petalaces become fragrant and gain maximized abilities when imbued with this pollen.

    • Wirebug

A beetle native to the Kamura area. The term Wirebug generally refers to the females of the species. It is capable of producing a super-strong silk colloquially known as Ironsilk, which it uses to carry materials to build its nest. For ages, the villagers of Kamura have trained Wirebugs to make use of their mobility.
It’s skittish when feral, but quite obedient once trained. Loves Jewel Lilies.

    • Green Lampsquid

A squid that inhabits the Frost Islands, swimming in schools and spitting ink at threats.
It emits a phosphorescence the same color as its ink, and can be sighted lighting up the seas like an underwater lamp, hence its name. Green Lampsquid ink has curative properties, healing injuries and wounds to an extent.

    • Giganha

Carnivorous fish native to the Flooded Forest.
Though usually docile, they’ll go into a frenzy when they smell meat. Giganha will attempt to sink their teeth into anything, monsters and hunters alike. Their ravenous behavior subsides once they have had their fill, but will return when hunger sets in.

    • Great Wirebug

A beetle native to the Kamura area. This name refers to male Wirebugs, so called for their larger, more powerful bodies. As they are stronger than female Wirebugs, they are often used for long-distance movement, though they are less nimble and harder to control. They are also far less common than females. Once placed in a patch of Jewel Lilies, it’ll never leave.

    • Monksnail

A gigantic sea snail from the Frost Islands.
It hates bright lights, and so remains in the sea during the day. At night, it surfaces where squids and other such potential prey gather. It possesses an organ that projects various patterns of light onto its skin.
Its eyeball-like glow and colossal silhouette are the dread of every sailor in the region.

    • Blastoad

A large toad with a distinct red body.
It stores an explosive gas that, when emitted and mixed with the air, can cause an explosion powerful enough to topple even large monsters.

    • Peepersects

A butterfly with spotted yellow wings that can be found living in swarms in various locales across the region. In the past they were mistaken for flying eyeballs hence their creepy name. When attacked, they release a type of dust before fleeing. This dust can temporarily boost stamina if inhaled.

    • Yellow Spiribird

A small bird that glows a faint yellow. This glow comes from pollen that accumulates on its body while drinking nectar. Many mistake this glow for a human soul, hence the name. Petalaces become fragrant and gain a stamina boost when imbued with this pollen.

    • Firebeetle

A tiny beetle that pushes around a lava rock with its hind legs. The lava rock it pushes has fire properties, and throwing it at a target will inflict it with fireblight.
The lava rocks may feel warm to hold, but hold them too long and you may get burned.

    • Hellbill

A rare bird found near the crater of the Lava Caverns. Its vibrant red feathers grant it immunity to the dangers of magma. It bathes in lava to burn off germs and metabolic waste. This spectacle has resulted in it becoming a symbol of rebirth among mankind.

    • Felicicrow

A large crow with beautiful blue and black feathers.
It possesses a lavish white collar and tail feathers so highly developed that it’s able to use them as a third leg. It is said those who can snatch a twig from its beak will come into great fortune.

  • Vol.4

    • Pincercrab

A hermit crab native to the Sandy Plains.
It sticks to cliffs in small groups and eats plants and smaller creatures there, dirt and all. The consumed dirt accumulates in the shell and is excreted when it’s large enough.
When attacked, the group goes into high alert, shooting lumps of earth at their attacker.

    • Yellow Lampsquid

A squid that inhabits the Frost Islands, swimming in schools and spitting ink at threats. It emits a phosphorescence the same color as its ink, and can be sighted lighting up the seas like an underwater lamp, hence its name. Yellow Lampsquid ink temporarily dulls the nerves, making the consumer more resistant to pain.

    • Mudbeetle

A tiny beetle that pushes around a mud ball with its hind legs. The mud ball has water properties, and throwing it at a target will inflict it with waterblight. The water element makes the mud ball seem wet all the time.

    • Scale Lizard

Relatives of the Rock Lizard, these lizards can also be found in a number of locales. Unlike the Rock Lizard, they don’t attach minerals to their bodies—instead, they tend to use monster scales and claws. Scale Lizards are extremely rare as they inhabit areas seldom traveled. They are prized by hunters as the materials they drop fetch a high price.

    • Gustcrab

A terrestrial crab with mushrooms on its body.
When attacked, it rustles its shell, causing the mushrooms to expel spores, which it uses for protection. It also feeds on insects that are attracted to fungi, forming a mutually beneficial relationship. The eyeball-like mushrooms on its back are extremely bitter and not suitable for consumption.

    • Butterflame

A butterfly with crimson wings. In flight, they look like dancing flames and in the past, were often mistaken for fire or ghosts.
When attacked, they release a type of dust before fleeing. This dust can temporarily boost attack strength if inhaled.

    • Orange Spiribird

A small bird that glows a faint orange. This glow comes from pollen that accumulates on its body while drinking nectar. Many mistake this glow for a human soul, hence the name. Petalaces become fragrant and gain a defense boost when imbued with this pollen.

    • Sleeptoad

A large toad with a distinct blue body.
It stores a soporific gas that, when emitted, is powerful enough to knock out even large monsters. Using it in conjunction with a Bomb Barrel on a sleeping monster makes for a powerful all-out attack, provided you get the timing right.

    • Snow-faced Fox

A fox that inhabits the Shrine Ruins. Extremely rare, it has been seen perched atop the gate leading into the Ruins. Its large bushy tail has a unique pattern that gives off the impression that it’s split into nine separate parts, but in reality, it’s just one large tail.
Despite its majestic appearance, it’s quite a playful creature.

    • Thunderbeetle

A tiny beetle that pushes around a dirt ball with its hind legs. The dirt ball has thunder properties, and throwing it at a target will inflict it with thunderblight. No one seems to understand why the dirt ball has these properties.

  • Vol.3

    • Fortune Owl

An auspicious owl of this region, with golden feathers on its chest and a cat-like face. Due to its extreme rarity, it has been a symbol of wealth since ancient times. Those who encounter it are said to come into great fortune.

    • Aurortle

A large tortoise with an anthill on its back. If you capture it, the anthill absorbs damage for you when you take a fatal blow. Aurortles and the ants that reside in the anthill have a symbiotic relationship where the ants protect the shell with their hill, in exchange for the tortoise’s food scraps and excrement.

    • Red Lampsquid

A squid that inhabits the Frost Islands, swimming in schools and spitting ink at threats. It emits a phosphorescence the same color as its ink, and can be sighted lighting up the seas like an underwater lamp, hence its name. Red Lampsquid ink temporarily increases concentration, granting the consumer a higher chance of landing critical strikes.

    • Snowbeetle

A tiny beetle that pushes around a snowball with its hind legs. The snowball has ice proper-ties, and throwing it at a target will inflict it with iceblight. The snowballs are so cold that you’ll get frostbite if you hold them for too long.

    • Echobat

Bats found in Lava Caverns. They live in groups and eat small flying bugs. Highly territorial, they will threaten invaders by turning themselves red and releasing scales that act like gunpowder to cause explosions large enough to hurt even large monsters.

    • Clothfly

A butterfly with long wings. In flight, it looks like a flowing piece of cloth, giving it its name. When struck, it scatters a dust cloud and flees. The dust has a tightening effect on human skin making it more resistant to injury.

    • Tricktoad

A frog known primarily for its distinctive red fins. It can puff itself up with pheromones to float like a balloon. Not one to shy away from confrontation, it instead spreads its menacing fins in a show of intimidation, even against much larger foes, though not always wisely. This show sometimes has the opposite effect, instead attracting predators. Thus, some hunters use it as a decoy, hence the name.

    • Green Spiribird

A small bird that glows a faint green. This glow comes from pollen that accumulates on its body while drinking nectar. Many mistake this glow for a human soul, hence the name. Petalaces become fragrant and gain a health boost when imbued with this pollen.

    • Lanternbug

A glowing caterpillar that secretes a sticky fluid to attach leaves or wood to its body, making it look larger. This bodily fluid is highly volatile, exploding when it is struck, acting as a self-defense mechanism. When applied, this explosive response to being hit helps mitigate some damage to the user.

  • Vol.2

    • Golden Spiribug

A golden beetle. When in flight, the sound of its wings flapping has a relaxing effect. Its diet mostly consists of other tiny insects. The ones that it favors most can be found on the plants that Petalaces are made from. Hunters wearing a Petalace will attract Golden Spiribugs and often return from hunts with their Petalace covered in them. A dye made from this bug is a famous specialty of Kamura Village.

    • Poisontoad

A large toad with a distinct purple body.
It stores a poisonous gas that, when emitted, is powerful enough to instantly poison anything that it comes in contact with, even large monsters.

    • Cutterfly

A dragonfly with a sharp red tail that releases pheromones when under threat. During mating season, it rubs its tail on various surfaces to spread the chemical secretion. This action often cuts through fishing nets. As a result, Cutterflies are shrouded in superstition, particularly amongst fishermen.
Breathing in the pheromone grants hunters increased concentration for a higher chance at critical hits.

    • Stinkmink

A weasel with distinct snow-white fur that is light and warm. When threatened, it emits a type of pheromone from the scent glands near the base of its tail in the form of a smoke-like cloud. It uses its tail to spread the cloud in an attempt to attract any monster nearby.
If a monster is successfully lured to its location, it’ll use this chance to escape.

    • Flashfly

Winged insects that emit a bright light when struck.
To survive, Flashflies live together in a swarm and have a defense mechanism that allows them to emit a blinding flash if threatened, giving them time to flee to safety. The flash is so bright that it’s possible to cause a large monster to flinch. Once the threat has disappeared the swarm will gather together again.

    • Red Spiribird

A small bird that glows a faint red. This glow comes from pollen that accumulates on its body while drinking nectar. Many mistake this glow for a human soul, hence the name.
Petalaces become fragrant and gain an attack boost when imbued with this pollen.

    • Escuregot

A large snail with a green shell. It stores fluids with healing properties in its body, consuming them when food is scarce. When attacked, it emits a type of mist from its shell to blind its attacker. Immune to the mist’s blinding effects, they are often used by hunters out in the field as a means to heal.

    • Puppet Spider

      A spider with a distinct yellow-spotted pattern.
It shoots out a sticky web from its abdomen that is robust enough to restrain monsters.
When feeding or fleeing from enemies, it uses strings of web to immobilize its target. When feeding in particular, this behavior is reminiscent of a puppeteer manipulating a marionette, which is how its name came about.

    • Boulder Lizard

A relative of the Rock Lizard, these lizards can also be found in a number of locales.
Like the Rock Lizard, they also attach a variety of minerals to their bodies to protect themselves. However, these minerals are typically harder than those found on Rock Lizards and are more sought after by hunters.

    • Vigorwasp

An insect that collects a restorative nectar and stores it in a sac. When struck, the sac releases a healing mist that’s sure to be useful for hunters in a pinch.

  • Vol.1

    • Brewhare

This round rabbit may appear cute and fluffy, but its furry coat is actually made of mold.
By allowing bacteria to grow on it, it gains an increased amount of nutrition from its food.
Simply keeping this rabbit on their person can ferment a hunter’s food for added nutritional value.
As they are clever creatures, they usually escape their captors after a period of time.

    • Antidobra

A snake with an unusually developed neck region.
Its body is filled with an antidote that works on various poisons.
When a hunter absorbs it, ailments are healed, and resistance is heightened temporarily.
The pattern on the back of its head resembles a scary human face.
Despite its size, it has a timid nature.

    • Wailnard

A pheasant with a giant red vocal sac.
It sounds like a crying child, which it uses to attract large monsters that will, in turn, distract its predators.
Hunters capture and use Wailnards to lure large monsters to their vicinity.
It is a usually docile creature that spends most of its time in hiding.
Despite its wings, it’s not very good at flying.

    • Trapbugs

Insects with sharp horns that live in colonies affixed to tree branches.
If attacked, their horns will stick out in a defensive position.
Their horns are so tough that they can even pierce the thick hide on the bottom of a monster’s foot.
They are often used by hunters as a natural trap or as a means to slow down or turn away pursuers.

    • Rock Lizard

A small lizard that lives in various locales.
To protect itself from predators, Rock Lizards will attach minerals to their body in order to blend in with their surroundings.
If attacked, they will shed these minerals and escape.
They are popular among hunters as the minerals have many uses.
